On the 17th and 18th of January, we had the privilege and honor to provide our simultaneous interpreting services for the Dubai Department of Economic Development at the UAE Economic Outlook 2017. The event was held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, at the Palazzo Versace Hotel. Over 200 guests, including members of the royal family, gathered to hear speeches by keynote speaker, His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation, Chief Executive of the Emirates Airline & Group and Chairman of the Economic Development Committee in Dubai; H.E. Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Saleh, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy for Foreign Trade and Industry; and H.E. Ali Majed Al Mansoori, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development. The conference also featured presenters and panelists from the World Bank, Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, and the Abu Dhabi and Dubai Departments of Economic Development.
The Event was held to discuss the importance of innovation and entrepreneurship for sustainable growth and diversification, as well as the UAE’s economic prospects for 2017. It required two professional interpreters with an advanced understanding of economics to provide simultaneous English to Arabic and Arabic to English translations. Our interpreters sat in our company-provided soundproof booth and relayed each speaker, presenter and panelist’s message to the audience via infrared earphones. While no technical issues occurred, one of our skilled technicians remained present throughout the entirety of the event to ensure the equipment ran smoothly.
The discussion on the UAE’s economic growth in the post-oil phase and the goal to emerge as one of the world’s most important centers for global trade, transport, finance and tourism through sustainable and innovation-driven productivity was well received. We at LangPros are pleased to have helped the Dubai Department of Economic Development effectively deliver and communicate the UAE’s economic outlook for 2017.
