The Global Conference of Human Fraternity is the event organized by the leaders of the United Arab Emirates in conjunction with Pope Francis’ visit to Abu Dhabi. The conference, held on the 3rdand 4thof February 2019, gathered seven hundred religious leaders, prominent intellectuals, scholars, and media figures from around the world, with the aim of reaching a common framework of cooperation in order to achieve human fraternity.
Langpros had the honor to take part in this historic event to provide simultaneous interpreting services for the attendees in English, Italian, and Spanish.
The Themes of the Conference
The conference focused on three main themes:
- Principles of Human Fraternity: combating extremism valorizing diversity and promoting dialogue, as well as defending the rights of the oppressed and persecuted;
- Common Responsibility to Achieving Human Fraternity: debating the common responsibility to achieving global peace of international organizations, and the role of culture and education in building and spreading fraternity;
- Human Fraternity: Challenges and Opportunities, discussing the absence of the human conscience, the rise of individualism and materialism, and religious/ethnic fanaticism and its consequences.
The event was concluded with the historic meeting between HE Dr Ahmed E-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and HH Pope Francis.
On this occasion, the two signed the Human Fraternity Document, a milestone for interfaith dialogue. This document is the blueprint to “guide future generations” towards tolerance and respect for diversity, equal rights for women and appreciation for all religions.
