In the summer of 2013 we provided our simultaneous interpreting services for UNICEF’s Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS) Design Workshop. Held at the Al Ghurair Rayhaan Rotana Hotel in Dubai, the workshop was held from June 30th to July 6th. UNICEF Workshop facilitators taught UNICEF officers, their government counterparts and survey coordinators the methodology of MICS. The gathered UNICEF and government officers participated in various group discussions and question and answer sessions. They also listened to speeches and presentations on collecting data on women and children’s living situations.
UNICEF held this conference to strengthen the design and implementation of surveys used in the MENA region. To help translate this important message, we provided Spanish-English-Arabic interpreters. This allowed the UNICEF and government officers to fully grasp the presented concepts by eliminating the language barrier. Our interpreters were selected based on their prior experience in translating topics such as statistics. They were not only familiar with the terminology, but were also able to understand the presented information. Our interpreters translated all of the group discussions, Q&A sessions, presentations and speeches from our company-provided soundproof booth. The audience received these translations through infrared earphones, which they had collected at the beginning of the workshop. No technical difficulties arose, but one of our skilled technicians remained throughout each full conference day to ensure the technology ran smoothly.
Our team at LangPros was very happy to have helped UNICEF give their important survey design workshop so that everyone in attendance could understand. In workshops and conferences such as these, it is important that concepts are properly interpreted so all parties involved can understand the message fully. Our interpreters at LangPros are capable of transmitting the true meaning of any message. We love to make workshops and conferences like this a success.
