The goal, in short, is to make Dubai the happiest city in the world. How? By making it completely paperless, leveraging emerging technologies and initiatives.
A paperless city
One of the first strategies that will be implemented thanks to the Smart Dubai Project is to make the city paperless. This will be possible thanks to the use of new technologies and payment systems, which will ensure that all government transactions are 100% digitized, saving 1,000,000 trees.
In fact, each year, more than 1 billion pieces of paper are used by the government for its transactions. Eliminating paper, therefore, will not only optimize time and increase efficiency levels but will also save the environment.

In a nutshell, new technologies will be implemented, creating also a legal framework to address digital procedures. With the money saved thanks to this operation, more than 4 million children can be fed, saving 130,000 trees at the same time.
Along with making Dubai paperless, Smart Dubai Project has one goal: making Dubai the happiest city on Earth.
How Will Dubai Be Happy?
Happiness, as explained within the Smart Dubai Project, will be achievable thanks to the new technologies and innovations that will be implemented to make the city smarter still. We are talking about the Happiness Agenda, a unique approach that aims to increase happiness levels by tracking the impact of new technologies on residents and tourists.
There will be ambassadors throughout the city who will monitor people’s needs and feedback on government decisions, building awareness and encouraging self-reflection. This will help make people feel better by providing a safe, efficient and personalized environment.
Start-up support strategy
Another strategy that will be implemented through the Smart Dubai Project is to support start-ups. Dubai is famous for its entrepreneurial streak, which is why start-ups are at the heart of it.
These will be helped through new technologies such as Blockchain, which has already been implemented throughout the city for two years. The Global Blockchain Challenge was also hosted to select the best blockchain project to be deployed in the city.
In addition, through the so-called Dubai Smart City Accelerator, companies in IoT and connectivity, along with city automation and mobility, artificial intelligence, Blockchain, Open City Data, sustainable cities and living, Smart Government and the Smart Retail sector will be supported to grow over the years in the most efficient way.
Also supporting start-ups are the Dubai Future Accelerators (DFA), which are 9-week programs that match the best tech companies with leading government organizations.
Last but not least, Smart Dubai Project is organizing AI Labs and strategies for the implementation of artificial intelligence. The latter is based on 4 main principles: Ethics, Safety, Humanity, and Inclusiveness.
