The Future of World Oceans Is at Stake
According to estimates, by 2050 the oceans will contain more plastic than fish. Moreover, global warming, pollution, overfishing, and the increasing demand for desalinized water are altering the maritime ecosystem and irreversibly damaging sea life. This is why we need effective global policies to stop the degrading of the oceans before it’s too late.
The World Ocean Summit
The World Ocean Summit is the yearly event organized by The Economist that brings together political leaders, heads of global businesses, scientists, and NGOs from all over the world to discuss and outline the future of the oceans. On its sixth edition, the 2019 summit is being held in Abu Dhabi, a first for the Arabian Peninsula.
The summit operates on three fields:
- Finance: challenging the present assumptions on the blue economy, and developing new financial models for a sustainable investment in the ocean;
- Governance: improving policy-making tied to maritime resources and creating synergies between the public and private sectors;
- Innovation: exploring how entrepreneurs, inventors, and innovators can create new opportunities for sustainable growth.
Building Bridges: Enabling a Multicultural and Multilingual Dialogue
The event organizers decided to invite speakers and attendees from different organizations scattered all over the globe to assure a dialogue that takes into account multiple points of view. From Prince of Monaco HSH Albert II to HE Thani Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, UAE Minister of Environment (the list goes on and on, to find out more about the speakers), the conference includes a multitude of personalities, cultures and, of course, languages.
Langpros has been chosen as the language service provider for the event. Our three specialized technicians installed the interpreting equipment, providing 400 high-end infrared headsets for the audience. Two of our professional Arabic-English simultaneous interpreters have been assisting the language needs of the attendees for the three days of the event, enabling the intercultural dialogue that will restore hope in a sustainable future for the blue economy.
