We assisted the Abu Dhabi Department of Municipal Affairs (DMAT) with their workshop, the Workshop Agenda on the Law No. 3 of 2015 on Regulation of Real Estate Sector in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi Application Updates, with our simultaneous interpreting services. The two-day workshop drew a large crowd of representatives from every major bank in Abu Dhabi along with representatives of property developers, real estate brokers, land professionals, appraisers, and auctioneers. Law No. 3 of 2015, which covers a wide-range of topics in 90 articles, was implemented in January of 2016. This new law shifts the responsibility of monitoring Abu Dhabi’s real estate sector to DMAT. The workshop was held to review the conditions and requirements of the law and go over the new registration and licensing system. DMAT also used the workshop to further explain their real estate escrow system. The new system requires all projects that are less than 70% complete to open an escrow account. The projects sale proceeds will then be deposited into this account in phases matching the project’s progress. The law also adds new mortgage provisions to Abu Dhabi’s real estate sector. Industry experts believe this new law provides a clearer framework for mortgage borrowers and lenders, which will increase lending. It is also expected to encourage growth in Abu Dhabi’s real estate market.
DMAT needed to be sure industry representatives attending their workshop left with a proper understanding of the new law. To help DMAT eliminate any language barriers that would have impeded this goal, we provided two simultaneous interpreters. Our professional interpreters both had experience working with various governmental bodies in the UAE and were familiar with their communication style. Our interpreters were also experienced with legal translation and legal interpretation and they easily incorporated the correct terminology into their translations. From our company provided soundproof booth, our interpreters translated the presentations, speeches and question and answer sessions. Meanwhile, the audience listened to the real-time English to Arabic translation through personal headsets, which we provided at the beginning of the workshop. We also supplied DMAT with our full conference equipment including our soundproof booth, microphones, control system, and infrared earphones.
Certain topics, like real estate law, are difficult enough to explain without a language barrier.
