When legally translating a document issued in Italy for use in the United Arab Emirates, the first thing to know is that official documents must be attested and stamped by the UAE Embassy to Rome. Official documents include, but are not limited to, Articles of Association, Chamber of Commerce Registration, Resolutions of the Board of Directors, Diplomas, Deeds, and Marriage Certificates.  Another important thing to note is that these documents cannot be translated directly into Arabic. They must first be legally translated from Italian to English. Then, they can be legally translated from English to Arabic. This process can be confusing, but all you have to do is follow a series of steps.

Step One: Getting a Sworn Italian to English Translation in Italy

After the original document is translated from Italian into English by a Legal Translator, the new translation must be sworn and stamped at an Italian Court of Law. At this step, there will be required fees for stamping based on the number of pages being sworn. However, the guidelines for sworn translations (known in the UAE as Legal Translations) vary from court to court in Italy.

Step Two: Legalizing the Document at the Prefect Office in Italy

Once the translation has been sworn and stamped at an Italian Court, it must proceed to be legalized at the Prefect Office or Office of the Public Prosecutor. Here, the document will again be stamped. This time, there will be no associated stamping fee, but the processing can take up to five days.

Step Three:  Legalizing the Document at the UAE Consulate in Italy

The UAE Consulate in Rome will automatically attest the legal translations with stamps from the Prefect Office or Office of the Public Prosecutor. To signify this legalization, the translated document will once again receive a stamp. This stamping will take approximately 24-48 hours and will cost anywhere from €40 to €800. These prices are based on the document type.

Step Four: Getting the Attestation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) in the UAE

The translated documents can now be sent to MOFA in the UAE. MOFA will automatically attest and stamp any document legalized by the UAE Consulate in Italy.

The four steps for the attestation of translated documents

With the MOFA stamp, the document is ready to be translated from English to Arabic by a Legal Translator. To be a Legal Translator in the UAE, the translator must be a sworn translator for the Ministry of Justice. This translator will once again stamp the document to show this.

Our team at the Language Professionals is able to provide Italian-English-Arabic Legal Translations. We have translators who are sworn by both the Ministry of Justice in the UAE, the Italian Consulate in the UAE, and the Italian Courts of Law.
