Interpreting for Pope Francis

Pope Francis’ historic visit to Abu Dhabi marks an important milestone towards tolerance and peace. On his first trip to the Arabic Peninsula, the Pontiff and the Grand Imam of Al Azhar signed the Human Fraternity Document, which advocates dialogue and tolerance between different religions.

Langpros’ interpreters had the honor to contribute to his visit by working at the Global Conference on Human Fraternity.

The Pope’s Visit to Abu Dhabi

For the first time in history, the Head of the Roman Catholic Church visited the Arabian Peninsula. On his arrival in Abu Dhabi on Sunday, Pope Francis was welcomed by Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan.

On Monday, after the official welcome at the Abu Dhabi Presidential Palace, the Pontiff met the Grand Imam of Al Azhar Dr Ahmed Al Tayeb, in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed at the Founder’s Memorial.

On this occasion, the Pope and the Grand Imam took part in the Global Conference on Human Fraternity held at the Emirates Palace Hotel. The conference addressed topics ranging from the Principles of Human Fraternity, Common Responsibility, to achieving Human Fraternity and Human Fraternity and its Challenges and Opportunities.

As the culmination of the event, the two religious leaders signed the Human Fraternity Document, a milestone for interfaith dialogue. This document is the blueprint to “guide future generations” towards tolerance and respect for diversity, equal rights for women and appreciation for all religions.

On Tuesday, before leaving, Pope Francis celebrated the Holy Mass at Zayed Sports City, where thousands of Catholics and Muslims attended the event.
